Check into your hotel in Lourmarin where you will stay for the next 3 nights. Located at the foot of the Luberon mountains, this village has long since been known as one of the most beautiful villages in France. With a fantastic weekly farmer’s market and 11 restaurants (two of which have Michelin stars), this is a great destination for you to savour regional cuisine, famous for its quality, character and unforgettable flavours.

Night in Lourmarin

To kick off your tour, this first loop will allow you to discover two of the great renaissance castles. The first, Chateau de La Tour d’Aigues, is now just a restored ruin, but an impressive one nonetheless. Next, the Chateau d’Ansouis, built on a rocky peak overlooking the massif of the Grand Luberon, was once a Celto-Ligurian fortress.

Night in Lourmarin

The beautiful, narrow river valley of Combe de Lourmarin awaits you, also the only road that divides the Luberon massif! You’ll cross a few more chateaux (each in a league of its own) before reaching Bonnieux, a village perched on a plateau overlooking the valley.

Today, head towards the pays d’Apt region and take the time to visit the neighbouring villages, some of which are perched on top of hills that dominate the entire valley and offer the most scenic views over the mountains. If you make it back to Bonnieux in time, check out the Bakery Museum for a fun non-cycling activity!
