Our cycling tips in and around Martigny
Where we love to ride, grab a coffee or have a glass of wine
First in mind is of course the colossal Great Saint Bernard pass, with its monastery made famous by the eponymous dogs, which by the way are no longer kept at the monastery but the monks still welcome guests through out the year. This is a big climb for even the keenest cyclists but unfortunately the first section can see quite a lot of traffic. You would be best served by taking a car or a postal bus to Bourg Saint Pierre just before the tunnel and then cycling to the col from there and maybe heading over the other side into Italy.
You can also head up further West to climb the the Forclaz and Montets passes which are the gateway to Chamonix and the Mont Blanc region. If you have the legs we recommend bearing left after the Forclaz and heading up to the spectacular Emosson dam, which featured in the 2016 Tour de France. You will be hard pressed to get a better view of Mont Blanc but from Martigny this is a long hard climb but well worth the effort
